Pinched Servers Party! 2-Day Workshop
Saturday August 12 2-5 PM
Sunday August 13 2-5 PM, with picnic party to follow
Let’s make serving pieces fit for a party! In my house we love to have “snack night”, where we put out a big spread of cheese and meats, veggies and dips, and other fun bites as a fun change from normal dinner. It’s a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth, and whether you’re serving homemade baba ghanoush or Cheez-its to your family and guests, everything looks better in handmade serving pieces!
On day one of this immersive hands-on workshop, we will use a fun and intuitive pinching process to create serving pieces of all different sizes and shapes, including sectioned servers. We will let these pieces sit out overnight to stiffen up to leather hard, and on day two we will learn how to scrape and refine our pieces to create a smooth surface for decorating using a surform tool and basic ribs.
The class will conclude with an outdoor snack picnic utilizing pieces from my personal collection made in the style we learned in the workshop! (If inclement weather we will have our snack party in an alternate indoor location.) A wide variety of snacks and light appetizers will be served with both meat and vegetarian options; if you have any food allergies please include a note when you register for the class.
Clay and bisque firing is included with this class. Tools are not included but the tool list is minimal. Please come to class with a serrated rib, a smooth metal rib, and a surform tool. A hard rubber/silicone rib is helpful, but not required. If you don’t already have these tools, I will include purchase links in the confirmation email, or they can be found at Highwater Clays supply in Asheville.
