Pillbug and Fern Stein
This pot is a collaboration between myself and my friend Rose Hardesty, read more about our process beneath the description of this piece!
This bold combo is a real winner! This mug was thrown by Christina, after which Rose applied the giant pill bug transfer. After bisque firing, Christina added her wax resist fern designs to complete the garden undergrowth scene. Lastly this pot was fired in a wood burning kiln for 18 hours, with salt introduced to glaze the exterior with a satiny finish. All pots are made from high temperature stoneware clay and are dishwasher and microwave safe (though we recommend hand washing for pieces with delicate features). Treat them well and they will last for generations of use!
Our process: Rose and I have been firing wood kilns together for the past two years and it has been such a great partnership! We’re good at problem solving together, each of us have complementary strengths we bring to the table, and we are both committed to making extremely tasty food at our firings :) Once, during a firing of a large two chamber kiln together, we made pots while waiting the few days it takes to cool before unloading. We combined our building and decorating techniques together to stretch our brains and have fun and loved the results! Since then, we take breaks from time to time from making our own work to have a jam session in the studio together and make more of these pots. Thanks for checking out our collaborations!
